Social Events:

We are having our summer meal this year at The Shambles on Saturday July 2nd.
The restaurant upstairs does a great menu choice  and folk can still put their name on the list.
Also, on Saturday October 15th we are off to Newcastle City Hall to enjoy The Last Night Of The Proms. Tickets are £10 and so far we have an eager bunch of folk who have put their names on this list.

NEW MEMBERS: We welcome two new members Rachel Cairns and Mathew Hankinson who joined the cast of ‘Happy Campers’- and that must have been quite an experience -playing ‘in the round’ instead of on the stage.  We shall hope to see more of them

FAREWELL TO JOAN:  As is always the way in a society like ours, as we welcome new friends we say farewell to friends who have been with us for a long time but have to leave. Joan Forster and her husband John have moved to the Midlands to be near their family. A very pleasant lunch was enjoyed at the Sun Inn to wish them well. An added pleasure was that Pip Appleby was able to join the party.

Message from Crusader Producer – Jared Johnson:

First of all very sad news – Rose Reeve, who wrote “Crusader”, has sadly just died after battling myeloma for 7 years and I think that the planned production will be a very suitable tribute to her life and her considerable contribution towards the musical life of St George’s in general and to the Community Players in particular.  I know from very recent contact with her that she was delighted that I was planning to stage it again and was looking forward to being part of the production.

Read through Monday 18th April at 7:30

With the exception of the parts of “grown-up” Ellen, Tommy and Jackie (portrayals of 2 of the marchers), and that of Richie Calder – a local journalist who accompanied the March –  all other parts are very much “cameo” parts consisting of perhaps just a few lines in the entire show.  There will be opportunities for the occasional solo verses of songs, but for the most part the musical numbers are largely “chorus” songs – many of them in unison – or with fairly simply harmony lines, so don’t be put off if you think you aren’t a particularly competent singer!  There is a lot of scope both for chorus men AND women, and I am happy to involve teenagers as well – indeed, I NEED at least 3 older schoolgirls to sing one of the numbers.

Everyone who was in the show last time around seemed to really enjoy it, and I am keen to have a relatively big cast once again.  We shall also be recruiting a small Band (much as we did for “Oh What a Lovely War”).

I have scheduled a read-through for Monday 18 April  – it would be great if as many of you as would like to be involved on stage could attend that session so that I get an early idea of who is likely to be available, and can start thinking about casting the bigger parts.  If you want to be involved but cannot attend on 18th, please let me know (01670 514610 or jared-marg@hotmail.com) .

Thank you

Jared Johnson
